Vanessa-Mae

Vanessa-Mae’s real name is Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn Nicholson. She was born in 1979 into a Thai-Chinese family, they lived in Singapore. As a child she was taught to play the piano (when she was given her first piano lessons she was only a three-year old girl). And when she was five she was took the violin lessons. It was obvious she was a gifted child.

Vanessa-Mae being brought up in London had a nice opportunity to perform with an orchestra called the London Philharmonic (it was in 1989). After the concert which was recorded being rather successful Vanessa-Mae issued two other recordings during the period since 1990 and until 1992. That was followed by a concert tour with the London Mozart Players.

Vanessa-Mae got her music career started as a representative of classical music. But After some efforts in that field she made a decision to try her hand in popular music issuing her debut album called The Violin Player (in 1994, on EMI label). The album became extremely popular both home and abroad and received much praise being issued by such a sophisticated musician.

Vanessa-Mae’s The Violin Player became a chart-topper. In 1996 she received BRIT Award as Best British Female Singer. In 1998 she issued one more successful recording called Storm. The Original Four Seasons & The Devil's Trill Sonata appeared in 1999; it was also a success. Vanessa-Mae’s became one of the most selling singers of the time.
