The Legendary Pink Dots

The Legendary Pink Dots was founded in Great Britain (in London); but as soon as the band was formed the musicians went to Amsterdam (it was in 1980) to get their career started there. The band featured rather sophisticated and hard-working musicians, so no wonder that they became rather popular, and their career was rapidly developing. The band is known at home and abroad.

The Legendary Pink Dots featured such musicians as Edward Ka-Spel (vocals, keyboards) and Phil Knight (keyboards) (he is also known as the Silver Man). Actually the band was a duo, however it didn’t prevent Edward Ka-Spel and Phil Knight to cooperate with supporting cast during many years, and in fact they were of great help to the band, joining them during concerts.

The Legendary Pink Dots was popular for their unusual and individual style of music; it wasn’t some kind of definite particular stile: the band specialized in a stile which combined melodic pop, exotic psychedelia, classical music and gloomy and powerful lyrics. At first the band released their recordings on such labels as Mirrodot and Inphaze (it was in the beginning of the80’s).

The Legendary Pink Dots made a decision to sign a contract with a new label called Play It Again Sam (in the middle of the 80’s) to issue a new release called The Lovers (1985). On that very label the band issued a lot of popular records such as Crushed Velvet Apocalypse (1990), The Maria Dimension (1991), and many other hits.

The Legendary Pink Dots was successful both home and abroad; the band was appreciated both by the musical critics and mass media, and for a long time was the chief topic for discussion for the press, especially after their performances which were really successful. Their live album called Farewell, Milky Way, released in 2006 was considered to be a real hit.

The Legendary Pink Dots released Your Children Placate You from Premature Graves in 2006, which was also rather successful. The band created during many years but nevertheless it remained as popular as before. In 2006 the band gave a concert in honor of their 25th anniversary, it attracted a lot of fans and became a great event for them.
